CELEBRATION
On June 10, 2017 marked the 16th Annual Filipino Cultural Celebration at the Oceanside Civic Center and Plaza. There were new highlights in the program this year. One of them is the presentation of the newly formed Maharlika Choir (chaired by PP Belle Limoge) with professional singer and musical director Debbie Nicastro as the choir director. A crowd favorite was the one-hour non-stop presentation of the cultural dance group. Another high point is the presentation of the Little Miss, Pre-teen and Mrs. Fil-Am winners to the public. A segment to remember as well are the projects of the organization like the awarding of $5,000 scholarships to five (5) deserving Fil-Am senior high school students of North San Diego County and $3,000 scholarship funds to the students in the Philippines. A donation of $2,500 was also awarded to the Oceanside Public Library in our support of education and as their partner as well. A colorful segment was the cultural models showing their costumes in Santa Cruzan style – a perfect way to showcase the exquisite Filipiniana attire from the different regions of the Philippines. Lastly, the day was ended with the bombastic performance of Jo Awayan and the internationally acclaimed hip-hop dance winner Lazarus Boys. It was a very culturally enriching and enjoyable moment to remember!
